Title : Centroid 1-D
Aim: To verify the Parallelogram Law of Forces
Apparatus: Metal Wire, string, scale, blank paper, protractors, etc.
Theory: Centoid of 1-D object is known as the point at which entire mass of the object is concentrated.
Where, (x,y) is the coordinates of the centroid of the 1-D object
Procedure:
- Take a metal strip wire and turn it into given shape.
- Make a trace the wire shape on blank paper
- Plot the surface reference axes for the traced figure.
- Calculate centroid analytically for given traced object.
- Repeate the above procedure by hanging the object at any other point and then trace the gravity line on the paper
- Intersections on the both traced line given as the centroid on object experimentally.
- Find coordinates of the experimental centroid using the scale from the reference axis.
- Calculate errors in analytical and experimental centroid coordinates.
Observation Table :
| segment | length | x | y | lx | ly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AB | 5 | 3.76 | 3.76 | 18.8 | 18.8 |
| BC | 6.28 | 7.53 | 6.80 | 47.28 | 42.7 |

| DE | 6.28 | 10.53 | 4.26 | 66.12 | 26.75 |
Result: Centroid of 1-D object is G(7.63,4.78)
